Feelings of irritability, anxiety and even depression
affect many people. Are you someone that is suffering from depression and don’t know what to do to get help?
Dr Tanith Davidson
and Dr Cornelia
Botha fully investigate each case to ascertain the factors
causing the emotional disturbance and use a combination of treatments to help individuals who are experiencing depression. As there are many causes of depression the treatment will depend on the individual, here are some examples:
- In many cases an imbalance in the brainwaves can be causing feelings of depression.
Dr Tanith Davidson uses neurofeedback
as an objective way of assessing the person's
brainwaves. -
Various emotional disorders, including depression, are caused
by (or at least aggravated) by food
intolerances. We can arrange for you to check for these
with an ImuPro blood test.
-
Other physical problems such as thyroid disorders, nutritional deficiencies,
infectious mononucleosis, endometriosis, hypoglycaemia, poor diet and lack of exercise may also be causative factors.
Once detected, treating these causes directly can lead to
complete resolution of the depression.
-
Heavy metal toxicity also has a big effect on emotions. Tests can be conducted to check for heavy metal toxicity,
followed by treatment with individualised chelation.
-
Chemical imbalances can also affect the mood and there are a number of
herbal and
nutraceutical supplements, which can be used to help correct these imbalances without any side-effects.
Correcting chemical imbalances with herbs and other natural
treatment should be supervised by trained, experienced
homeopath to avoid aggravating the depression or causing new
problems (e.g. a swing from depression to anxiety, aggression
or mania).
-
If the depression is caused by tension, stress, burn-out or a traumatic life event
we provide individualised homeopathic and herbal support for
the adrenal glands.
Lifestyle choices are always taken into consideration and altered if it will benefit the individual. The correct diet, regular exercise and avoidance of drugs, alcohol and stimulants often have more of an impact than people realize.
We assess our patients' lifestyles and diets in order to give
individualised guidance.
